With approximately thirty-five active students from Oklahoma
Christian and the University of Central Oklahoma, the Westwood University Ministry is filled with
excited students from many diverse backgrounds who each bring unique
qualities and leadership abilities to Westwood. Our main goal is to be an
all-inclusive ministry of total evangelistic focus, active in
service to individuals, the congregation, and and the
Edmond community.
The goals and
vision of this ministry are to:
- instruct, prepare, and mold students into mature spiritual leaders
who are prepared to accept responsibilities within any congregation;
- build a student-led leadership so that the students will take
ownership of their ministry;
- build a group of close-knit students committed to serving one
another;
- build a connection between the students and the church - as well as the
students and the youth group - so the students will grow as
one with the church, and not a separate entity;
- involve members of the congregation in the group as spiritual and familial
examples, mentors, sponsors, and leaders assisting the
students to grow and mature;
- build an active group with an evangelistic focus and
positive attitude for service.
One of the greatest aspects emphasized by this ministry is the opportunity
for our students to fill leadership roles within the group and in the
worship services at Westwood. The male students have a weekly opportunity to
give lessons during our ‘Summit Wednesday’ devotional times, lead the group
in singing and praising God, read scripture, lead public prayer, and much
more. Our focus is to place these students in leadership roles where they
can grow and develop as leaders and servants in His church! These
students are not just the church of tomorrow, but they are also the church
of today!
On
Sunday evenings the University T.E.A.M. meets in a member's home at 5 PM. Currently there are approximately fifteen
students committing themselves to be there and be involved, and we hope that
number will continue to grow as each student brings a friend. Additionally,
the University Ministry has recently launched a ministry to the
University of Central Oklahoma that meets on the campus of UCO every
Sunday evening at 6 PM.
This fall the University Ministry will continue to have an active Parent/Student
Adoption Program, service projects, various
fellowship/outreach activities, student-led worship services on
the first Sunday night of every month, and a September retreat.
There are many opportunities to become involved in
the Westwood University Ministry. You can start by subscribing to the e-mail
list to receive updates of activities. Send an email
with "sub westwood.university.ministry" in the subject line to
